The Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’ s Office and the Specialised Defence Prosecutor’ s Office of the Western Region reported suspicion<\/a> to three people of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the special period (para. 1 of Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The suspects include the rector and former vice-rector of a private university, as well as a member of the military law enforcement service. <\/p>\n\n

The investigation established that they had organised a scheme under which men liable for military service could obtain a deferral from mobilisation, by using fictitious enrolment in educational institutions abroad (bachelor’s, master’s, and postgraduate studies). For this, the criminals demanded about \u20ac1,500 per person. According to preliminary data, more than 200 people used the services. <\/p>\n\n

The detainees were taken into custody with the right to be released on bail in the amount of over UAH 3 million. During the searches , cash equivalent to over UAH 4,5 million UAH, mobile phones, equipment and draft records. <\/p>\n\n

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the SBU Office in Zakarpattia region with the operational support of the NPU Department of Strategic Investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
