On Monday, October 14, NATO will launch its annual nuclear exercise Steadfast Noon, Secretary General Mark Rutte said at a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy – RAR

The exercise involves F-35A fighter jets, B-52 bombers and about 60 aircraft from 13 countries. Over the course of two weeks, about 2,000 military personnel will simulate missions using U.S. nuclear warheads without using real weapons.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted that in an unstable world, such exercises are vital to test the Alliance’s defense capabilities and demonstrate readiness to respond to any threat. He emphasized that the exercises do not involve the use of combat weapons, but are aimed at strengthening NATO’s defense capabilities.

These maneuvers are an important element of NATO’s strategy to ensure security and stability in the region. They will also be a kind of response to the Putin regime’s nuclear threats.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte also said that supporting Ukraine is vital to NATO’s collective security. At a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he emphasized that if Russia succeeds in Ukraine, it will have serious security implications for all NATO countries. Rutte also noted that each NATO country decides for itself how and under what conditions to provide weapons to Ukraine.

“When we discuss Ukraine, we know that it is difficult because the Russians are making small gains in the east, with heavy losses on the Russian side. They are losing a lot of people: people are dying, people are being seriously wounded, but the Russians are still striking. We are doing this not only because we want to support Ukraine. Yes, that’s the main reason, but also because supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russia is crucial to our collective security – here in Europe, Canada, the United States, and throughout NATO. If Putin gets his way in Ukraine, it will have serious security implications for all of us in NATO. That is why we are doing this,” he said.
